FAQs
Many sighthound owners can never let their dog off the lead due to the strong chase instinct that has been bred into them for centuries. Therefore the playgroup may be the only opportunity for the dog to run, whereas owners of other breeds can usually let their dog off-lead more safely.
Why is the playgroup only for sighthounds?
If there is a chance that your dog may turn on other dogs or upset the group then it will not be allowed to join. If it is just nervous and needs confidence then you are welcome to try, but bear in mind we are not dog trainers and this is purely a session for dogs to run. There is also no separate viewing gallery, so all the dogs are in the centre together and it might get stressful for a very nervous dog.
Why does my dog have to wear a muzzle?
Sighthounds get very excited when running and can nip, even if only in play. As many of them have thin skin and very little hair it doesn't take much to tear the skin.
Treats and toys give dogs something to fight over so may cause unnecessary problems. As it is not a training session, treats should not be required and the aim is for dogs to run and play with each other, not with toys.
Why can't I use treats or toys?
My dog has socialisation problems. Can it still come along?
I can't make that day/time/place. Are there any other sessions?
If you would like to join but the existing session is inconvenient then please email to let me know. There is another centre in Newnham, Forest of Dean, so if there is enough interest then other sessions may be set up.
